Today's P-D breaks the story that Ramona Crinella and builder/developer Orrin Thiessen have taken the wraps off their plans for Crinella's 72-acre property smack-dab in the middle of downtown ForestvilleVision for Forestville.
There's a sidebar, too, that gives good background on the long fight over the property, although as a participant in those battles from 1986 on I have a slightly different memory of events. All that is of little consequence.
The bottom line is that we finally have a new proposal -- an 8-acre downtown, a town square, 20 new business and 40 new homes, evidently tightly clustered. I read the story on the P-D's website, so I don't know if the print edition contains a rendering of Thiessen's plan or not. The devil, of course, is in the details.
One of the reasons that so many of us fought earlier Crinella proposals was that they attempted to plunk a cookie-cutter, Rohnert Park-style, suburban subdivision in the middle of a country village.
This proposal appears to be quite different. In the many conversations I've had with Ramona in recent years she has seemed much more willing to be creative. Let's all hope the details turn out to be as promising as the announcement.
